Meet Which?: The UK's Consumer Champion

Which? is the UK's leading consumer organisation: independent, not-for-profit, and entirely dedicated to making life simpler, fairer, and safer for everyone. From rigorous product testing and impartial reviews to high-profile campaigns that hold businesses and lawmakers to account, Which? is a powerful force for good. Whether it's helping consumers navigate a faulty purchase, exposing online scams, or championing safer products on the market, Which? is the trusted voice that millions of people turn to every day.

With a culture rooted in values, inclusion, and genuine purpose, Which? is also a remarkable place to build a career, as Hannah Heath discovered.

Hannah's Story: A Non-Linear Path to a Role She Loves

Growing up in Stoke-on-Trent, memorably voted 'Worst Place to Live' by the Sunday Times in 2001, Hannah Heath didn't have the most expansive vision of what her career could look like. Careers guidance at her school was, as she puts it, basic at best. The options discussed were the predictable few: doctor, nurse, accountant, vet, dentist. So Hannah followed her passion for sport, completing a degree in Sports and Exercise Science in Sheffield, and graduating with still no clear sense of direction.

What came next was a career shaped not by a master plan, but by curiosity, necessity, and a willingness to try things. While house-hunting for a property to renovate, Hannah had a lightbulb moment: she could be an estate agent. She found a role, learned the ropes (booking viewings, conducting valuations, leaflet-dropping in all weathers), and progressed to sales manager.

When the business owners decided to launch a mortgage advisory arm and couldn't find anyone to run it, Hannah stepped up again. She sat her exams, set up the business herself, and threw herself into the work. Unfortunately, when maternity leave arrived, the business struggled and didn't survive her absence.

Rather than being derailed, Hannah used it as motivation. She completed her IFA (Independent Financial Adviser) qualifications, returned from a second maternity leave, and launched her own practice as a self-employed financial adviser. She loved her clients and her work, but she wanted to reach more people.

"I absolutely love my job as a money expert. I get to help people make informed decisions about all things money without any pressure to sell anything, knowing I am giving the best information I can."

That desire to help at scale is what brought her to Which?. As a Money Expert, Hannah now does exactly that: providing honest, independent guidance to consumers across the UK, free from any pressure to sell. She works from home, stays connected to her team through regular meetings, and finally feels she has found the role that brings it all together.

Hannah's story is a testament to the fact that the road to a fulfilling career rarely runs straight. It takes detours, pivots, and moments of setback. And that's perfectly okay.
